So, what’s the difference between all the colours? This is a question we get asked quite often, and we’d like to answer this just for you.
Most persons would be surprised to know that freshly harvested Sea Moss is not the same colour as dried raw Sea Moss. Come with us, as we walk you through the process from beginning to end.
On the marine protected shores of Canouan Island, our ethically harvested Eucheuma Cottonii Sea Moss grows in a variety of distinctive natural hues; ranging from light brown, brown, reddish brown and bright green.
During the drying process, however, it is normal for these hues to naturally change. The bright green turns to darker shades of greens to grey, the reddish brown turns into a darker shade of purple and the brown to light brown turns into a pink to light purple hue. No chemicals, dyes, preservatives or additives are ever added at any stage.
The Green or Purple is obtained by being hung intentionally in the shade and left to air dry for about 4-5 days. By way of this process, we are able to preserve the natural pigments, phytonutrients and thus, the full potential of its benefits.
The Gold is obtained by using any of the natural colours and intentionally bleaching it by using sunlight. This sun bleaching process dissolves the natural pigments and changes the Sea Moss to a whitish colour. Again, no chemicals, dyes, preservatives or additives are added. The Sea Moss is then placed in direct sunlight and dried for 3-4 days using only suns solar rays. The colour ends up being a beautiful golden hue.
